Search “dentist near me” in Saddar or “restaurant in F-7” and the first thing you see isn’t a website. It’s a map with three businesses listed under it. That box is the Google Map Pack, and for local businesses in Rawalpindi and Islamabad it is often the most valuable spot on the whole results page. People who search this way usually want to call, visit or get directions right now.
This guide explains how the Map Pack works and walks you through the exact steps we use in our SEO services at Servixt to help local businesses in the twin cities rank in it, without shortcuts that get profiles suspended.
What is the Google Map Pack?
The Map Pack (also called the Local Pack) is the block of usually three business listings shown with a map when Google thinks a search has local intent. It appears for searches like “car mechanic Rawalpindi”, “best biryani Blue Area” or simply “pharmacy near me”.
Each listing pulls information from the business’s Google Business Profile: star rating, number of reviews, category, opening hours, photos, and buttons to call, visit the website or get directions. That means a customer can choose you without ever opening your website.
Why the Map Pack matters so much in the twin cities
- Most local searches happen on mobile. On a phone, the Map Pack can fill almost the whole screen before any normal website result appears.
- The intent is high. Someone searching “AC repair Bahria Town” has a problem today and is ready to pay someone to fix it.
- Competition is still beatable. Many businesses in Rawalpindi and Islamabad have unclaimed, half-filled or outdated profiles, so a well-managed profile can stand out quickly.
How Google decides who ranks in the Map Pack
Google has publicly said that local results are based mainly on three things. Every step in this guide improves at least one of them.
1. Relevance
How well your profile matches what the person searched. If someone searches “skin specialist” and your primary category is “Dermatologist” with services and a description that mention skin treatments, you are relevant.
2. Distance
How far your business is from the searcher, or from the location mentioned in the search. A bakery in Satellite Town will naturally show up more for people searching in Rawalpindi than for someone in G-11. You cannot change your location, but you can make sure Google knows exactly where you are and which areas you serve.
3. Prominence
How well known and trusted your business is. Google looks at reviews, ratings, links and mentions around the web, and how strong your website is in regular search results.
Step 1: Build a complete Google Business Profile
Your Google Business Profile is the foundation. If it is incomplete, nothing else will work properly.
Claim and verify your profile
Go to Google Business Profile, search for your business and claim it, or create a new one if it doesn’t exist. Google will ask you to verify ownership, often by recording a short video showing your signboard, your premises and proof that you run the business. Keep your signboard visible and your details consistent before you start, because verification failures are common when the name on the profile does not match the name on your shop.
Use your real business name
Write your name exactly as it appears on your signboard, letterhead and documents. Do not add “Best”, “No. 1”, service keywords or “Rawalpindi Islamabad” to the name. It might give a short boost, but it breaks Google’s guidelines and is one of the fastest ways to lose your listing.
Choose the right primary category
Your primary category has a big effect on which searches you show up for. Pick the most specific option that describes your main business, for example “Pediatrician” instead of “Doctor”, or “Pakistani restaurant” instead of just “Restaurant”. Then add a few secondary categories for other genuine services.
Set your address or service area correctly
- If customers visit you (shop, clinic, restaurant, office), show your full address and make sure the map pin sits exactly on your building.
- If you visit customers (plumbers, electricians, home tutors, pest control), hide your address and set service areas such as Rawalpindi, Islamabad, DHA, Bahria Town or specific sectors you actually cover.
Fill in every section
- Phone number: use a local number you answer. If most of your customers message on WhatsApp, make sure that number is reachable too.
- Website link: link to your homepage or, for multi-location businesses, the matching location page.
- Hours: add regular hours plus special hours for Eid, Ramadan timings and public holidays. Wrong hours lead to angry reviews.
- Services or products: list each service with a short, plain description and prices where it makes sense.
- Business description: explain what you do, who you help and where, in natural language. Mention the areas you serve once or twice, not in a keyword list.
- Attributes: tick relevant options like wheelchair access, parking, online appointments or women-led business.
Add real photos regularly
Upload your logo, a cover photo, clear photos of the outside of your building (so people can find you on a busy road), the inside, your team and your work. Real photos taken on-site build far more trust than stock images, and profiles with fresh photos tend to get more calls and direction requests.
Step 2: Get real reviews consistently
Reviews affect both your ranking and whether people choose you once they see you. A business with 120 genuine reviews at 4.7 stars will usually beat a business with 8 reviews at 5.0.
Make asking for reviews part of your process
- Get your short review link from your Google Business Profile dashboard.
- Send it on WhatsApp after the job is done or the customer has visited, while the experience is fresh.
- Print a QR code for your counter, reception desk or bill folder.
- Train your staff to ask happy customers in person. A simple “It would really help us if you left a Google review” works.
Encourage detailed reviews
Reviews that mention the service and the area (“got my car AC fixed quickly at their Chaklala workshop”) help Google understand what you do and where. You cannot write reviews for customers, but you can ask them to mention what they came in for. Reviews in Urdu or Roman Urdu are completely fine.
Reply to every review
Thank positive reviewers by name and mention the service naturally. For negative reviews, reply calmly, apologise for the experience, and offer to fix it offline. Future customers read how you handle complaints, and often that matters more than the complaint itself.
Never buy or filter reviews
Paying for reviews, getting friends to post fake ones, or only sending the review link to customers you know are happy (review gating) all break Google’s policies. Google regularly removes suspicious reviews and can restrict your profile.
Step 3: Make your website support your local rankings
Prominence depends partly on how strong your website is in normal search. A good local website also convinces the people who click from the Map Pack.
Put your city and services in the right places
- Title tags and H1s: for example “Dental Clinic in Bahria Town Rawalpindi”.
- Service pages: give each main service its own page instead of listing everything on one page.
- Contact page: show your full address, phone, WhatsApp, hours and an embedded Google Map.
- Footer: the same name, address and phone as your Google Business Profile.
Create location pages the right way
If you have branches in both cities, create a separate page for each branch with its own address, phone, photos, directions and team. If you serve many areas from one location, write genuinely useful area pages, for example the areas in Islamabad you cover, typical response times and local projects you’ve completed. Avoid copying the same page and just swapping the city name, as thin duplicate pages rarely rank.
Add LocalBusiness schema
Structured data helps search engines read your business name, address, phone, hours and location clearly. Most SEO plugins like Rank Math and Yoast can add LocalBusiness schema, or your developer can add it manually. If your site runs on WordPress, our WordPress development team can set this up for you.
Make it fast and mobile-friendly
Most Map Pack clicks come from phones, often on mobile data. Compress images, use good hosting, and make your call and WhatsApp buttons easy to tap. If your website loads slowly, people will simply go back and choose the next business in the pack.

Step 4: Keep your name, address and phone consistent online
Your business name, address and phone number (often called NAP) appear in many places: your website, Facebook page, Instagram, directories and industry websites. When these details match, Google trusts your information more. When they conflict, for example an old number on Facebook or a different spelling of your address, it creates confusion.
Where to list and update your business
- Bing Places and Apple Business Connect (for people using Bing or iPhone Maps)
- Your Facebook page, Instagram and LinkedIn company page (our social media marketing team can keep these updated)
- Industry-specific directories relevant to your field, such as doctor booking platforms, property portals or food delivery apps
- Local business bodies such as the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce & Industry or Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry, if you are a member
Tip: address styles in the twin cities vary a lot (“Plot 12, Block C, Satellite Town” vs “12-C Satellite Town”). Choose one exact format and use it everywhere.
Step 5: Earn local mentions and links
Links and mentions from other local websites show Google that your business is a real, known part of the community. A few relevant local links are worth more than dozens of random ones.
- Partner with nearby businesses and get listed on their “partners” or “recommended” pages.
- Sponsor local events, university societies, sports tournaments or community drives in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
- Share expertise with local media and blogs, for example tips from a clinic during dengue season or advice from a property consultant.
- Get listed by suppliers and brands you work with, such as an authorised dealer or installer page.
Step 6: Keep your profile active
A profile that is set up once and forgotten slowly loses ground to competitors who keep theirs updated.
- Publish Google Business Profile posts for offers, new services, events and seasonal updates like Ramadan deals or winter services.
- Answer questions customers ask on your profile, and make sure the information stays correct.
- Upload new photos of recent work, new stock or your team every month.
- Watch for suggested edits from other users and correct anything wrong.
- Update hours immediately for holidays and unexpected closures.
Mistakes that get Rawalpindi & Islamabad profiles suspended
We regularly see businesses in the twin cities lose their listings, and their calls, because of these mistakes:
- Keyword stuffing the business name, such as “Ali Plumber Best Plumbing Services Rawalpindi Islamabad”.
- Using a fake or virtual address in Islamabad to appear in Islamabad searches when the business actually operates from Rawalpindi.
- Creating multiple profiles for the same business at the same location.
- Buying reviews or posting reviews from staff and family.
- Frequent big changes to name, category and address all at once, which can trigger re-verification.
- Showing a home address as a storefront when customers can’t actually visit.
If your profile has been suspended, fix the violation first, then submit a reinstatement request with proof such as utility bills, business registration and photos of your premises.
How to track your Map Pack results
Ranking in the Map Pack is only useful if it brings customers. Track these numbers every month:
- Google Business Profile performance: calls, website clicks, direction requests, messages and the search terms people used to find you.
- Google Search Console: clicks and impressions for local keywords on your website.
- Local rank tracking: check your position from different parts of the city, because a result in Saddar can be very different from a result in DHA Phase 2.
- Real leads: ask new customers how they found you and note it down.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to rank in the Google Map Pack?
Most businesses in Rawalpindi and Islamabad see movement within 2 to 4 months of consistent work on their Google Business Profile, reviews and website. Highly competitive categories like clinics, real estate and restaurants in busy areas can take longer.
Can I rank in Islamabad if my office is in Rawalpindi?
Distance from the searcher is a major Map Pack factor, so a Rawalpindi address will mostly rank for searches near Rawalpindi. You can still win Islamabad searches with a strong profile, location pages and reviews from Islamabad customers, but you should never create a fake Islamabad address.
Do I need a website to rank on Google Maps?
A website is not strictly required, but businesses with a fast, mobile-friendly website that mentions their city, services and contact details usually rank higher and convert more Map Pack visitors into customers.
Should I add keywords to my Google Business Profile name?
No. Adding extra keywords or city names to your business name breaks Google’s guidelines and can get your profile suspended. Use your real-world business name exactly as it appears on your signboard and documents.
Can I buy Google reviews to rank faster?
No. Fake or paid reviews violate Google’s policies and can lead to reviews being removed or the profile being restricted. Ask real customers for reviews with a direct review link after every sale or service.
