How Much Does a Website Cost in 2026? An Honest Breakdown

It’s the first question almost every client asks us, and it’s a fair one. The frustrating answer you’ll hear everywhere is “it depends.” That’s true, but it isn’t helpful. So let’s actually break it down, the way we’d explain it if you were sitting across the table from us.

The short answer

A simple, professionally built business website usually starts from a few hundred dollars and can climb into the thousands. An online store costs more. A custom LMS or SaaS platform costs a lot more. What moves the price isn’t the number of pages. It’s how much the site has to do.

1. Business website (brochure-style)

This is the classic 5 to 10 page site: Home, About, Services, Contact, maybe a blog. It’s perfect for clinics, consultants, agencies, contractors and local shops.

What you’re paying for: a clean design, mobile responsiveness, fast loading, contact forms, and basic on-page SEO. Most small businesses start here with a Business Website, often built on WordPress because it’s easy for owners to update later.

2. E-commerce store

Once you’re selling online, the work multiplies: product pages, variations, payment gateways, shipping rules, tax settings, order emails, and inventory. A small store with 20 to 50 products is a very different job from one with 2,000 products and multiple warehouses.

Your platform choice matters a lot here. Shopify has monthly fees but less maintenance headache. WooCommerce has no platform fee but needs good hosting and regular care. Our E-Commerce development team usually helps clients pick based on their product count and growth plans, not on what’s trendy.

3. LMS website (online courses)

Coaches, academies and training institutes are moving online fast. An LMS Website needs course structure, student logins, quizzes, progress tracking, certificates and payment integration. Expect more setup time and testing than a regular site.

4. SaaS website and CRM

A SaaS Website is usually the marketing front of a software product: pricing tables, feature pages, signup flows and integrations. A custom CRM is actual software that manages your leads, clients and pipeline. These are priced as development projects, not website projects.

The hidden costs nobody tells you about

This is where most business owners get surprised:

  • Domain and hosting renew every year.
  • Premium plugins or apps often have yearly licenses.
  • Content: if you don’t have photos and text ready, someone has to create them.
  • Maintenance: updates, backups, security scans and fixes. A site that’s never updated is a site waiting to get hacked. That’s why we recommend a Website Maintenance plan for almost every client.
  • Marketing: a website nobody visits earns nothing. Budget something for SEO or ads from day one.

Cheap vs. right-priced

You can find someone who’ll build a site for very little. Sometimes that works. Often, though, we get calls six months later from owners whose “cheap” site is slow, broken on mobile, or infected with malware. Fixing it costs more than building it properly would have.

A good rule: pay for what your business actually needs today, on a platform that can grow with you tomorrow.
